Almost 1,100 long distance triathletes from 32 nations are eagerly awaiting Challenge Regensburg, which takes place on August 14, 2016.

While this year’s race is imminent, planning for the 2017 event has already started in earnest. The second edition of Challenge Regensburg has been chosen to host the ETU European Long Distance Championship.

"Working closely with Challenge Family, we have managed to convince the ETU of the competence of the authorities of the Regensburg region and the team of Challenge Regensburg. We are very proud of this achievement and believe that hosting of the ETU European Championship will be a milestone for the Sports City and Regensburg region!“, organizer Tom Tajsich says.

ETU President Renato Bertrandi said, “I am very pleased to see that once again our athletes have the chance to race over the long distance at a Challenge event. After the great success of Poznan I am happy that long distance racing is back on line and attracting more and more competitors from across Europe. Regensburg will host the test event in a few days’ time. One of Germany’s oldest cities and a UNESCO World Heritage City! I am delighted that once again, by working closely with Challenge that we can offer our athletes a real test over the full distance.”

ETU European Long Distance Championship on August 13, 2017

The race, which takes place on August 13, 2017 will feature a strong international field of professional and age group athletes from across Europe as the race for the ETU European Long distance Championship.

“One thing is for sure, Challenge Regensburg will be a race highlight for athletes and visitors due to its uniquely beautiful routes. "Even before this year’s premiere, athletes who have visited our courses were delighted by the beauty of the Regensburg region. Of course, our fantastic finish at Domplatz Regensburg will reveal its full fascination only on race day. We look forward to the premiere!", says Tom Tajsich, eagerly awaiting the event.

In addition to the Challenge Regensburg race over a 3.8 kilometer swim, 180 kilometer cycle and 42.2 kilometers run, athletes and guests will be participating in and supporting numerous other attractions, such as the Mittelbayerische Beginners Triathlon, Womens and Kids Run, the Challenge Food Tour and concerts on race weekend. "Of course we’re planning a fantastic festival program also for the European Championship in 2017,“ the organizer says.
