A special 17th competition was held at Takapuna beach on Tuesday Night for the finale of the State Beach Series.

The final event was held for the Starship foundation with all proceeds going to sick and critically ill children across New Zealand.

Each year the State Beach Series has raised around $6000 per year for the Starship foundation.

Unfortunately the horrible weather discouraged many competitors and supporters due to the strong winds and rough seas.

However some of New Zealand's top athletes still turned up to compete in the charity event to show their support for Starship.

Olympic hopeful Steven Kent, took part in the 1km Ocean swim, while World number 2 Annabel Anderson, Jeremy Stephenson and Stephen Ferguson competed in the paddle events.

There was a great turnout of Starship representatives, including their CEO Brent Clark who competed in the 1km Ocean swim.

The State Beach series is New Zealands largest weekly multisport event and continues to get bigger every year. The 16-week competition records your top 10 results, which are counted towards overall prizes at the end of the competition.
