State Beach Series Race 14 Report

It was a beautiful evening on Takapuna Beach for Race 14 of the State Beach Series. Warm cool winds brought in the crowds with over 400 people competing.

The 3km stand up paddle boarding saw the competition resume between NZ Windsurfer rep JP Tobin and World No 5 Stand up paddle boarder Jeremy Stephenson. The two men fought out first place and in the end Stephenson took the win in 18m 33" just three seconds ahead of Tobin with Mcasey back in third.

World number 2 Annabel Anderson continued her winning streak, out paddling her competition in 18m 59".

Olympic hopeful Steven Kent was back this week to challenge North Shore swimmer Jackson Cropp. The youngster made Kent work hard as he stuck closely to the NZ representative on the final leg. Both fought hard for first place but the race ended in a win to Kent, with Cropp finishing under 1 second behind - an exciting result for Cropp who is yet to beat Kent.

Brenda Russell was a clear winner in the women's race finishing in 12m 21" ahead of Johanna O'Connor and Kirsty Wannan.

Nick Sutherland owned the Mens 5km Beach run finishing comfortably in 1st place while Tara La Grange is still yet to be beaten in the Womens division. La Grange strode home in fine form making this her 14th win of the series.

The 5 km surf, ski paddle was another close race between Simon Mclaren and Robbie Ford, both competitors battled it out for first place with Mclaren winning by the smallest of margins, one second.

In the women's event Dene Simpson took out first place.
