Our course can only be described as the most scenic in New Zealand. Where else can you do a Duathlon and have a darn good chance of spotting whales, dolphins and an abundance of Seals!

The course starts at the South Bay Racecourse – which is widely known in NZ racing circles as the most scenic Racecourse in NZ. First up is a 1.2km run around the South Bay Racecourse. Transition on to your bike, whether it be a mountain bike or road bike, and run or walk your bike up the hill behind the racecourse to a small flat landing where you can mount your bike and pedal your heart out.The 15km bike showcases Kaikoura at its finest. After the initial short uphill on the footpath up State Highway 1, hang a quick right and head on up Scarborough St, you've done most of the hard work by this stage but it is still a bit of an uphill. Not for long, though, 2km max! Then loop around the end of the Peninsula, left on to Austin St, right onto Cromer St and right onto Ward St, then you get the sweet downhill! Race down Scarborough St until you meet up with SH1 and here you turn right, and enjoy the downhill where you end up on the Esplanade and here you can take your chances at spotting any dolphins or bird life.

The cycle along the Esplanade is breathtaking to say the least! Follow along to the Seal Colony where you are almost guaranteed to see an abundance of Fur Seals sunning it on the rocks. Turn around and come back this time turning left into Torquay Street just past The Pier hotel. Follow your nose all the way along Torquay Street until Killarney St, a very quick sharp uphill and then race back down SH1 - still on the footpath back to the little landing at the top of the Racecourse. Dismount your bike here and then run as fast as you can back to transition! With your bike firmly racked, set off on a lap again of our Racecourse, then head out the gate by the Birdcage and cruise along South Bay Parade. This is a short flat burst before heading up into the "Enchanted Forest". This will bring you out on Scarborough Terrace where a fantastic 1.3km downhill awaits back to the Racecourse. Once back at the Racecourse - you guessed it.......one more final lap of the Racecourse, just for the fun of it!
